Link Building Globally – Global SEO

July 15, 2010

Are you working with a global search agency or know someone who is?

I have been working with an “international” search agency for some time now and have to say that while I realize that global search is still a bit behind the times, I don’t think there’s any reason to play dumb when it comes to supporting your clients.

Without going to negative here, I will just say that we all know buying links is not a good SEO practice, but neither is asking your client for help when you strike out. General basic good SEO globally involves acquiring links from the country with which your site lives. In other words if y you have a site that sells computers in London, acquiring links from a website that sells lawnmowers in Chicago will likely not help you at all.

Whether it’s B2B or B2C, you should be performing outreach to those reputable and RELEVANT sites using the appropriate anchor text and pointing into the most relevant page in your website. If you’re site is based in London, you should only be looking for other websites within the UK, specifically .co.uk sites, as that will not only help your search ranking, but will help your visitors in country as well! After all, don’t we want more visitors from within the country our site lives? (the answer is yes, we do!)

As far as an actual link building process is concerned. I don’t know how some of these big agencies handle their link building, but sounds like their willing to pay the site that hosts your link with some sort of cash payout. How is that effective link building seriously?

SEO, people often say, isn’t rocket science – well apparently it is! I would also say it’s common sense and still very logical. Just sayin!

In the meantime I am exploring other global SEO vendor relationships and would welcome any of your suggestions or experiences.
