Bing SEO Criteria – Well Known SEO Tactics

August 18, 2009

Optimization for Bing appears to come down to some well known SEO tactics and one possibly not so well known one, external linking.

• Domain age – the older the better!

• Tons of original content – think of your visitors!

• Title tags should be keyword rich – This should go without saying.

• Linking out favored over reciprocal – interesting and one I do agree with, shows my relevant content linking out to other relevant content.

• Lastly, be sure not to exclude Bing from your PPC activities.

Not sure what your site’s stats are, but for those sites I am responsible for, we now have an much greater increase in Bing traffic over Yahoo, by approximately 20% – so I am certainly more mindful of who and what Bing is now more than any other MSN search engine.

    Hi Janet,

Saw your list and I agree, but I thought I’d throw in a few more Bing Best Practices to keep in mind:

Capitalize the first letter of your keyword on the page
    Bing really loves K.I.D.s
Stay literal, Bing’s lexicon engine is a lot more literal than Google’s

Great points Jeff! I wasn’t aware of Bing’s being so literal – but thanks for that!
I guess the capitalization of first letter of keyword is sort of a call out to them, along the lines of or for Google

Love wordpress – it took my HTML and used it, what I meant to say is along the lines of BOLD or Strong as is the case for Google

@Taylor Your 100% right, but that isn’t necessarily specific to optimizing for Bing. Everyone should include analytics in everything they do.
