SEO & Pagination – What is Pagination?

I have heard from many and most recently Stephan Spencer at the most recent SMX Advanced in Seattle talk of “pagination” What the hell is it anyway? Sounds pretty intelligent, just say the word, seriously …”Hey Frank, you have some serious pagination issues on that site” – you sound like a bloody genius!

Ok, I digress… Pagination can easily be described as a process for organizing content on web pages, i.e. the ugly (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8…)  From an SEO perspective, this is hideous and I don’t really think I need to explain why, do I? OK, then, no keywords? No way of showing a list, i.e. alphabetically, or chonologically, and in some cases providing a linear perspective isn’t very necessary – no matter the subject there should be a more organized way to approach this. How about having one main index page that could contain the groups of info in an easy to sort, logical way? This way each of your pages stands a better chance at getting viewed by visitors as well as reducing duplication.

From a user experience perspective, it can be downright confusing especially if you have a few hundred pages to go from 1-159 could be really monotonous.

I found a good, plain speaking site that helps describe this a bit further –  from David Hamill’s blog  and from reading blue acorn’s technical details – still think eliminating pagination all together and just stick to showing articles, or products, etc listed within neat categories – improve your indexation and avoid duplication!

Cheers!

Bing SEO Criteria – Well Known SEO Tactics

Optimization for Bing appears to come down to some well known SEO tactics and one possibly not so well known one, external linking.

• Domain age – the older the better!

• Tons of original content – think of your visitors!

• Title tags should be keyword rich – This should go without saying.

• Linking out favored over reciprocal – interesting and one I do agree with, shows my relevant content linking out to other relevant content.

• Lastly, be sure not to exclude Bing from your PPC activities.

Not sure what your site’s stats are, but for those sites I am responsible for, we now have an much greater increase in Bing traffic over Yahoo, by approximately 20% – so I am certainly more mindful of who and what Bing is now more than any other MSN search engine.

PPC Executive Reporting | PPC, SEM Reports

When putting together a newly revised executive report I can think of some good metrics that must be included such as CPC, Engine Impression Share, Quality Score Data, and competitive review to name a few. Keep in mind this is an “executive report” you don’t want to load the report up with too many numbers and metrics that are really only necessary to the day to day campaign manager.

So, what sort of executive reports have you created? What have you learned to avoid and most importantly what has really been the must have metric that gets called out in the CEO meetings?Source: Efficient Frontiersem-spend-vs-roi.png

Covario Update:

I have worked with the tool on a fairly limited basis to this point. I do think the purpose of the tool is to help support all SEO efforts within a company, however, I do think it’s more helpful to that in-house person or team that is NOT expert on SEO. Read on for my honest take.
