Tools for SEO, Covario – What do you use?

December 28, 2008

There are so many tools one could use to help optimize their sites. Beyond the keyword tools, rank checkers, like WebCEO, there are so many others that haven’t really been developed for mass use.

Covario, aka SEMDirector as of this past July, is a relatively new way to help optimize your site, not that it would actually optimize your site per se, but it can help you see those pages that you may have never even known about those that are hidden deep in the recesses of your site, not included in your sitemap, that most likely should be.

I have not found too many people who have used this particular program, therefore the reviews areĀ  few and far in between. Within about the next 30-60 days I should have something to report to you about Covario (Organic Search Insight).

I initially saw this as a “tool” rather than something I can include in my quarterly reports to the CEO, which shows how much SEO has helped contribute to the company’s bottom line. Those of you who have a relatively long history in the SEO world soon find out that beyond all the “coolness” of SEO, it is very important to show the company stakeholders exactly how improving your SEO helps the bottom line, otherwise it’s just some geeky hobby.

Once you get beyond all the salesy nonsense, you really understand how helpful this software can actually be, especially if your, like me, aloneĀ  on the SEO team.

When doing some due dilligence on this software, I soon discovered there really isn’t any competition either. If you might have had any experience with this software or thought about it, please feel free to share your thoughts, as I will be glad to share mine once I have had ample time to review this product.

In my opinon, software and automation for SEO is the next major evolution in SEO – moving from a best practices driven practice to a more data driven process, like most online marketing tactics.

In addition to Covario, you should check out Conductor (www.conductor.com); their product focuses only on Natural SEO (vs covario which does paid, etc), but it goes very deep and is extremely impressive. I saw the beta and it blew us away.

I totally agree with your theory Jason, it is absolutely moving into a more advanced direction, which is where it should be.

I actually have been contacted by the co-founder of Conductor, Seth, who invited me to test out the Beta version, which I would really like to do over the next couple of months. I have a friend who commented on the granularity of the product, looking forward to giving it a shot.

    Thanks!

    Tykhon,
From what I can tell and what I have found:
That tool extracts content from youtube server – video titles, video descriptions, comments and put it on your site. Thats the main feature of that product as i can see so far. It has plugins for WordPress, Joomla and Drupal, which is quite impressive i guess.
I pulled that quote from someone who gave it a brief description. If you have videos you want optimized for your site, there are easier and less expensive ways to have this done.
First, I would include that video on my web page and surround it with relevant text and if it was a video I wanted more exposure to, I would certainly include relevant anchor text from the home page linking into my internal video page.
Also, you can optimize the video itself with some good video SEO, quality relevant title, description and any good external linking into that page of course.
I have not tried this tool, and I don’t think I would be included to unless after all my primary SEO efforts were first applied.
