Google Wiki – Subscribed Links – Personalization
November 26, 2008
While I have been very busy on many things International lately, I can’t help but wonder what in the world Google is doing over there? We need a way to customize search results? Why?Great article http://www.techcrunch.com/2008/11/21/google-it-wasnt-broke/comment-page-2/ Google mentions that the changes you make only affect your own searches, simply because your signed into you Google account, however, I am sure this data will somehow include itself within Google’s searches in general terms. What will that mean for SEO in general. Well after not too much thought, I believe it comes down to the most basic of site side optimziation, Titles, Descriptions, Header 1, Alt Text. I don’t care what your site is, your really must have the very basic SEO in place, then Google can have it’s Wiki, or subscribed links, or whatever personalization it feels is necessary, at the end of the day – the more optimized you can make your pages the better targeted traffic you will create.
On Personalization:
Personalization will become so much greater, and therefore, the ranking of those keywords we like to showcase will most likely change as a result of many variables, IP address, previous search history, user’s intent along with Google’s new algorithmic changes.
I know this is an old tried and true way of showing the CEO and executives how our SEO program is doing, but we know SEO is way more than where our keywords rank, its best if you start educating this practice now rather than much later after the fact.
Traffic, Conversions, and ROI – for the long haul are those things we should really be focusing our attention on – but I think in the future we might want to lessen the importance of the high ranking keyword, rather focus on the traffic or conversions that keyword is bringing in.
