Google Maps – User Generated Content *New

June 24, 2008

Alright, so maybe I am late to this game, but I found a new feature on Google Maps – when searching for a place to rent a kayak in Wisconsin, I noticed this

user gen content google maps

Yes, Virginia this is Universal Search in action — Nice! So, I clicked on the first result

wausau kayak competition

and like that you get a youtube of this kayak competition that was held in a location you searched for. OK, not real excited? Well, for those of you needing some solid local search optimization, I’d say this is a great tactic, especially if your in the travel industry or any number of other great verticals to optimize for.

Just goes to show you, any and all content is up for grabs when it comes to optimization – title your content appropriately! Just can’t stress that basic fact enough!
